Hitting the Trail: Gettysburg National Military Park | August 26, 2014
Hitting the Trail is a weekly feature of the nature blog, Mud Puddles to Meteors. Contributors highlight trails, parks, beaches, and museums from around the country (and sometimes even beyond).
Jessica was invited to share an often over-looked and more intimate view of Gettysburg National Military Park, where she hikes often with her family.
Gettysburg National Military Park is a great destination for nature lovers year-round. Obviously the park can become a bit crowded during the summer (especially during the July 1st-3rd anniversary), but we’ve found the hiking trails are much less-traveled. Fireflies put on a spectacular show in June, while the fall foliage is breathtaking in October and November. During any season and in virtually any weather, the battlefield and surrounding landscape is not to be missed!
Kuerner Farm | November 10, 2015
A Sunday in early fall Jessica attended Brandywine River Museum of Art's Plein Air Day where artists may spend the day roaming one of the museum's historic properties and taking artistic inspiration for their own work.
She was invited to share her experience visiting and photographing Kuerner Farm (Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania) on the Brandywine Museum of Art Museum Blog.
Few places remain where one may experience the kind of peace Kuerner Farm provides. The unpolluted sky overhead, the thick green grass beneath our feet, beauty in abundance. It was magical, to say the least.
The woodland photography of Jessica Allen is featured in the Spring issue of RURAL Magazine.
The piece highlights ten of Allen's favorite images of fungi, mosses and lichen she captured between 2012-2017. The photographs were taken in Bellaire Woods, Swatara State Park, Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area and other natural areas within South-Central Pennsylvania.
She was drawn to fungi first by their ephemeral fairy qualities and then by the variety and their shape and color...
